New Public Seating and Bike Racks

Recent additions to improve safety and visitor experience

New bollards installed at the corner of Cecil Street and York Street

The City of Port Phillip recently undertook a public safety improvement project at South Melbourne Market which saw the installation of new infrastructure on the perimeter of the Market.

New bench seating, bike racks and planters were installed along York, Cecil and Coventry Streets, all of which are rated as hostile vehicle mitigation. New permanent bollards were also installed on the corners of Cecil and York Streets and Cecil and Coventry Streets, replacing the concrete blocks that were previously in place.

The new infrastructure and tactile paving improves accessibility and public safety, offers increased public seating and improves both the functionality and appearance of the space for Market traders and the local community.

The free community bike pump on Cecil Street was also reinstated.

We would like to thank our traders and local community for their patience during the construction phase of the project over the last three months.

If you would like any further information about this project or any other onsite projects at the Market, visit the Contact Us page of our website for details on getting in touch.
