Getting to Know: Adrienne Oxenham

For two generations, Adrienne Oxenham’s family have worked at South Melbourne Market. Adrienne has a rich history with the Market, a delightful story to share and is proud to represent her family at her stall, Babe's Eggs.
Born and bred in Port Melbourne, Adrienne started visiting South Melbourne Market when she was just four years old. At 15, her parents Barry and Freda bought Stall 13, B & M Meats (now Flinders + Co). Her brother Michael was also a partner in the business, so it comes as no surprise that Adrienne followed in her family’s footsteps, completing a Butchers Apprenticeship and eventually becoming a Manager at Chicken John’s.
At the age of 18, Adrienne was offered a chance to open her own boutique egg shop (coincidentally, her brother-in-law’s father also sold eggs at the Market in the 1940's and 1950's!). What started out as a trestle table piled high with eggs has now become a local institution, selling fresh free-range eggs from local suppliers including Country Pride and Jessanda.
A proud advocate and supporter for local Victorian producers, Adrienne also stocks a large range of Rich Glen oils and condiments from Yarrawonga, Pure Peninsula Honey from Mount Martha and milk, cheese and dairy products from Bass River Dairies.
Keeping things in the family, Adrienne’s three children have also worked in her stall, learning the ropes for what will become a third generation at South Melbourne Market.
You can now find Adrienne and the Babe's Eggs team in their brand new stall in Aisle C, opposite Frank's Fruit & Veg (next to Emerald Hill Florist).
