FAQs
A Foodie Affair Passport is a self-guided tasting experience at South Melbourne Market. Choose and purchase your preferred trader experiences in advance, then explore the Market at your own pace on your selected event date.
There is no set route, so you can visit your booked traders in the order that suits you.
Each ticket holder will receive:
- A Foodie Affair Passport, pre-stamped with their booked trader stops
- A Foodie Affair Boarding Pass
- A Foodie Affair Market Map
- A South Melbourne Market shopping bag
Your passport will include only the trader experiences selected and purchased when booking.
Bookings can be made via trybooking.
Each tasting experience is sold individually. You can choose as many tastings as you like when booking, subject to availability. We recommend a minimum of five tastings.
Payment is required in full at the time of booking. Bookings close 48 hours before the relevant event date unless experiences sell out earlier
Additional experiences may be purchased through the booking platform, subject to availability and the 48-hour booking cut-off.
Please note that experiences cannot be added or purchased from event staff at check-in unless otherwise advised.
Please bring your booking confirmation, either digitally or as a printed copy. You will need to present it at check-in to collect your passport and event materials.
Your booking confirmation is your proof of purchase. It is separate from the themed Boarding Pass you will receive when you check in.
Check in at the South Melbourne Market Office in Centre Aisle on your booked event date.
Check-in is available between 11am and 1.30pm.
- All ticket holders must check in between 11am and 1.30pm. We recommend arriving with plenty of time to collect your event materials and visit your booked traders before they close.
No. A Foodie Affair: Passport is self-guided, so you can visit your booked traders in any order.
Participating traders operate independently and their opening and closing times may vary. It is your responsibility to allow enough time to redeem each experience before the relevant trader closes.
We recommend allowing approximately two to three hours to check in, explore the Market and redeem your booked experiences.
You may take longer if you wish, but please keep individual trader closing times in mind.Stalls inside the Market close at:
- 4pm on Wednesday
- 5pm on Friday
- 4pm on Saturday
Individual trader hours may vary, and some traders may close earlier if they sell out.
Traders along Cecil Street stay open into the evening and night, so we recommend leaving these stops until last if they are included in your passport.
Your passport will be pre-stamped to show which trader experiences you purchased.
To redeem an experience:
- Visit the trader listed on the relevant passport page.
- Present the page to the trader.
- Collect your food, drink or product.
- The trader will add a second stamp to confirm that it has been redeemed.
Each experience can be redeemed once only, from the specified trader, on your booked event date and during that trader’s applicable trading hours.
If an experience is available but you do not redeem it before the trader closes, it will be treated as an unused booking and a refund will not be provided.
An exception may apply if the trader closes unexpectedly or the experience cannot be supplied for a reason attributable to the event organiser or participating trader.
- No. Each experience must be redeemed on the event date selected when booking, unless another arrangement has been agreed to by the event organiser.
- Bookings and individual tasting experiences cannot be exchanged for another experience within seven days of the booked event date, except at the event organiser’s discretion or where required by law.
Participating traders, menu items and experiences are subject to availability.
If a selected experience becomes unavailable, South Melbourne Market may offer a suitable replacement or another remedy appropriate to the circumstances. You will be contacted if a material substitution or change is required.
Dietary information provided during booking is a guide only and is based on information supplied by participating traders.
Products may be prepared, stored or served in commercial environments where allergens are present. While reasonable care is taken, South Melbourne Market and participating traders cannot guarantee that any product is completely free from allergens, traces of allergens or cross-contamination.
If you have an allergy or specific dietary requirement, you should:
- Carefully review the dietary information provided before booking
- Speak directly with the participating trader before consuming the product
- Consider whether the experience is suitable for you before purchasing
If you have a severe allergy, the event may not be suitable for you. Experiences cannot necessarily be modified or substituted to meet individual dietary requirements
Menu items are offered as advertised and traders may not be able to modify, substitute or remove ingredients.
Please review all available dietary information before booking and speak directly with the trader before consuming an item if you have questions about ingredients, allergens or preparation practices.
Selected experiences may include alcohol. Alcohol experiences are available only to ticket holders aged 18 years or over, and valid proof of age may be requested when you redeem the experience.
Participating traders must comply with Victorian liquor licensing and responsible service of alcohol requirements. Alcohol service may be refused if a person:
- Is under 18
- Cannot provide acceptable proof of age
- Appears intoxicated
- Must otherwise be refused service under applicable liquor licensing requirements
A refund will not be provided if alcohol service is lawfully refused because a ticket holder is underage, cannot provide valid identification or is intoxicated.
Yes, children can participate but must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
Alcohol experiences must not be purchased for or supplied to anyone under 18.
A Foodie Affair: Passport is a self-guided experience taking place during normal Market trade. Seating at participating venues and in the Market’s public areas is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Depending on the experience, items may be enjoyed at the trader’s venue, taken away or enjoyed in one of the Market’s public spaces.
This will depend on the individual experience and trader. Some products will be suitable for takeaway, while others may be designed to be consumed at the trader’s venue or shortly after collection.
Please follow any storage, handling and consumption advice provided by the trader.
Bookings and individual experiences cannot be transferred to another event date within seven days of the booked event date, except at the event organiser’s discretion or where required by law.
If your event date is more than seven days away, please contact the event organiser as soon as possible. Changes are subject to availability and are not guaranteed.
You may cancel your booking up to seven days before your booked event date and receive a full refund.
Cancellations received fewer than seven days before the event date are non-refundable, except where required by the Australian Consumer Law.
To request a cancellation, please provide your:
- Booking name
- Booking reference
- Event date
- If you do not attend on your booked event date, you will not receive a refund, except where required by law.
If the event is cancelled, affected ticket holders will be contacted using the details supplied during booking and provided with a refund or another remedy in accordance with the Australian Consumer Law.
If an event date is rescheduled or there is a significant change, affected ticket holders will be contacted and advised of the available options.
The experience primarily takes place within the Market and will operate in most weather conditions.
Please dress appropriately, as you may need to move between different areas of the Market, including traders located along Cecil Street.
If circumstances outside the event organiser’s reasonable control prevent, postpone or materially affect the event, ticket holders will be notified as soon as reasonably practicable.
Parking is available in the Market’s rooftop car park, accessed via Coventry Street, and in the York Street car park. Time-limited parking may also be available in surrounding streets.
As parking availability can vary, please allow additional time to arrive and check in before 1.30pm.
