Vegan Eats And Treats

Published 18 September 2019
We've rounded up our top vegan eats at the Market

It's no secret that the Market is a foodie paradise, but it might surprise you to know just how many vegan options are available.

On Cecil Street, The Village Juicery's vegan menu includes colourful, fresh smoothies, poke bowls, acai bowls, salads, raw treats and slices as well as seasonal dishes such as fruit popsicles in the warmer months and soups in winter.

In the Food Hall, Canteen serves up salads and vegie wraps along with toasted sandwiches by request and Proper & Son has seasonal dishes made from Market produce as well as permanent menu item The Vegan, a tasty combination of Market vegetables, grains and nuts.

For those on the go, Market Borek serves up lentil soup, falafel wraps and - of course - their signature borek filled with vegan-friendly spicy potato or pumpkin. At $4, they're great for a quick, cheap lunch, or pick up a few to stock your freezer for those nights when you can't be bothered cooking.

For a quick and easy dinner, our top picks are the salad bar at Small Town Pie Co or the sweet potato gnocchi from The Fresh Pasta Shop!

Vegans won't be left out during leisurely lunches or dinner dates at the Market's restaurants: at Bambu, try the fried vegetable dumplings with sweet Japanese mayo, the Penang pumpkin curry with cauliflower, green beans and basil or the crunchy tofu fries with lemon.

Those craving a sweet treat can grab a traditional hot jam donut from our resident van on Coventry Street or pick up an iced donut from La Lapa.

The fruit based sorbets at Fritz Gelato are also vegan, as are the dark chocolates made onsite at Atypic and the ice-cream sandwiches at Sweets on South.

If it's groceries that you're after, Moses & Co stocks non-dairy cheeses, yogurt and milks along with various tempehs, nut butters and tofu products as part of their range of health-conscious foods. Emerald Deli also stock a large range of vegan cheese options, dips and antipasto treats to create an enviable grazing platter for friends. For bread, St. George's Bakery is a must.
