Cooking School at the Market - Now Taking Bookings!
 |
The Market Cooking School at the new LG Kitchen is scheduled to open in early July. The Market has secured a variety of accomplished chefs to run classes at the Cooking School, and is now taking bookings for classes in July and August. Spots are limited so get in quick! The classes are scheduled to take place on Wednesday and Thursday nights every week, from 6:30pm – 9pm.
The Cooking School will feature classes with resident Market chefs such as Renan Goskin from Claypots, Leno Lattarulo from Simply Spanish and Pierre Stinzy from The Chocolate Lover. We will also be offering Master Classes with prominent Melbourne chefs such as Scott Pickett from The Point Albert Park and Tony Chiodo of Feel Good Food fame. Works Progress Well
Visitors to the South Melbourne Market will have noticed lots of building works:
- Coventry Street has temporary coolers on the road while we close the cool rooms behind the fruiterers and build a new roof. The completed roof will protect the fruiterers from the rain, make the area safer, include fire sprinklers and be used to collect rain water. The project has seemingly had a slow start but cranes will shortly lift steel into place.
- Sub Station - the work int he York Street car park is the construction of a new electricity sub station. This is long overdue and replaces the smaller sub station in Cecil Street that was working right at the limits of its capacity. The main part of the construction is finished. The rest of the job will take up less space and entails re-wiring much of the Market.
- LG Kitchen – The Market, with funding from LG Electronics, is building a cooking school and display kitchen - right next door to the SMM Dim Sim in Cecil Street. It is nearly finished - we expect it will open in very early July. We can’t wait.
- Turkish ‘tapas’ bar – the old Flaming Joes has gone, soon to be replaced by a homely Turkish restaurant called Koy (pronounced Kerr-eee). Also in Cecil Street.
- Claypots – the Evening Star is building its new restaurant on the corner of Cecil and York Streets.
There have been a couple of smaller moves – designed to make it easier for shoppers to get around in safety and comfort. Babe’s Eggs is next to the lift and PJ Plants has more space down the aisle where Babe's Eggs was. You will need to go to Aisle B to find Phillis’s Manchester.
While these works create lots of disturbance, the changes will be great for the Market, even better for shoppers and good for the environment.
