Winter Recipe Winter Recipe – Roast Beef
with Horseradish Cream

It is a great time for a roast. With the price of lamb rising, it is also a good time for a beef roast. But this time, try it with real horseradish.

• 150 ml cream
• 2 tablespoons grated horseradish
• 2 teaspoons lemon juice
• Salt
• Sugar

Lightly whip the cream – don't make it stiff as the horseradish and lemon juice will both act as thickeners. Fold in the horseradish and lemon juice.
Add a pinch of salt and pinch of sugar. Stir gently. Serve as a delectable accompaniment to beef or beetroot.

For your roast, try adding Jerusalem artichokes (just at the end of their season) or suedes and parsnips (both sweetening up with the first frosts).
All produce – including fresh horseradish – is available from Patrina's Potatoes on Coventry Street.
Market Brightens Up Market Brightens Up
with Two New Paintings

Jimmy Beattie, a Melbourne-based graffiti-artist, has completed two works at the Market. One is on the walls and ceiling between Aptus Seafoods and K&L Poultry; it depicts sea creatures and includes a touch of Nemo. The second is behind Padre and Swords; it depicts a passion fruit plant with tendrils creeping across the ceiling.

The creation of the first work has been captured on youtube;

Padre Coffee Padre Coffee

Featuring their own roastings of single origin coffees, Padre Coffee (in the Deli Aisle) has quickly forged a reputation in the Market. Having taken over from Sweet Agora shortly before Christmas, the new owners kept trading for a few months to gain a feel for the local consumer. After making the necessary adjustments to their offer (by positioning freshly roasted coffee as the focal point of the business) and re-fitting the shop with a totally new and rather lean look, they re-opened and immediately found a firm place on the Market shopper's itinerary.

Ken Cowan, the part-owner and operator, was accustomed to the pleasures of developing a loyal neighbourhood following at their Brunswick shop. Initially, Padre Coffee found it more difficult to define a sense of community amongst the bustle of the Market. Nonetheless, local coffee drinkers have readily identified with the publicity-averse coffee bean specialists. For those who have a more profound interest in coffee, you could come to a coffee siphon class in the new LG Kitchen in August.
