A Heartwarming Initiative By The City of Port Phillip!

In the City of Port Phillip, a heartwarming initiative called "The Family Breakfast Club" has been making a significant impact on the before-school routine of the families residing in Park Towers through delivering a healthy breakfast, a safe place for community building and access to council support and services. Supported by our wonderful traders at the South Melbourne Market, this initiative aims to address the issue of food insecurity by collecting edible produce and providing nutritious a breakfast to those in need.

The Family Breakfast Club operates on a weekly basis, with traders at the South Melbourne Market generously donating their surplus edible produce to the cause. These donations include fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products, and other nutritious items thanks to Cobb Lane Bakery, Babe's Fresh Farm Produce and Frank's Quality Fruit & Veg. The collaborative effort between the City of Port Phillip and the local traders ensures that no food goes to waste and instead finds its way to those who need it most.

One of the core values of The Family Breakfast Club is the promotion of nutrition and sustainability. By focusing on fresh and locally sourced produce, the initiative provides families with access to wholesome meals. This not only nourishes their bodies but also contributes to their overall health and well-being. Furthermore, the emphasis on utilising surplus food promotes a sustainable approach to reducing food waste and its environmental impact.

The success of The Family Breakfast Club in Park Towers highlightins the power of collaboration and compassion in creating a brighter future for all.

A huge thank you to Middle Years and Youth Services to organising this fantastic initiative!
