Getting to Know: Lee from Head South

“I’ve been hairdressing for 28 years,” says Lee. “Originally from Sydney, I ran a salon there for nine years before my husband and I made the move to Melbourne. I’ve now been doing hair here at the Market for over 11 years.”

From classic cuts and colours to perms, kids’ trims and senior styling, Head South caters to every age and hair need. “Whether you’re after an express trim, a complete colour change, or a style for a special occasion, we can do it all,” Lee says. “All of our stylists have more than 20 years of experience - we’re reliable, knowledgeable, and very reasonably priced.”

But it’s not just the expert styling that keeps clients coming back - it’s the atmosphere. “I’d describe the vibe here as relaxed, friendly and inclusive,” says Lee. “We really endeavour to offer all of our clients an enjoyable experience.”

That community feel extends beyond the salon chair. As part of the Market for more than a decade, Lee has seen firsthand how special the connection between traders and customers can be. “Some of our clients have been coming to this salon for 30 years now,” she says. “That’s just a very special thing.”

When she’s not transforming tresses, Lee makes the most of her surroundings. “There are so many amazing stalls here. In2Homewares is great for a gift - I have loads of their pieces in my pantry at home. Under Your Wear is perfect for comfy PJs. Rita’s Nuts does a great Epicuros granola, and I love Sherif’s Fruit & Veg for their amazing produce. And Borek’s lentil soup is a favourite. Yum!”
