Parking

Two hours FREE on-site parking is available to all shoppers on market trading days. There are 270 car spaces on the rooftop (ramp from Coventry St) and 75 car spaces available in the York Street carpark.

Boom Gates

The Market’s rooftop parking is now a Boom Gate car park. This means all customers are required to take a ticket from the boom gate machines before you start shopping. Take the ticket with you and, before you return to your car, validate your ticket and pay any necessary fees (at one of the two orange machines at the top of the stairs).

The introduction of fees after the first two hours on Market days has meant there are many more parking spaces freed up for shoppers. As long as you don't exceed two hours, you will not pay any fees on market trading days.

There is also two hours free parking available at South Melbourne Central (Spotlight Centre) every day via the Market Street entrance (400 spaces) and via the York Street entrance on weekends (450 spaces).

Bicycles

The Market is well-serviced by two major bicycle routes - both going between the
City and St Kilda. Refer to map. The Market also has a good supply of bicycle racks,
especially along York St.

Trams

From Melbourne City

Tram No. 96 from Bourke Street, and get off at South Melbourne (Stop 127) - there is a bright mural at the station.
Tram No. 112 from Collins Street, which take you along Clarendon Street, and get off on the corner of York St (Stop 127).
Tram No. 109 from Collins Street, which takes you to the corner of Clarendon Street and Whiteman Street (Stop 125 - Port Junction). Then transfer onto the No 96 or walk up Clarendon Street, then turn right at York St.

Tram No. 1 from Federation Square towards South Melbourne Beach to the corner of Park Street and Cecil Street (Stop 25). Alight the tram and head right up Cecil Street by foot. The market is a 5 minute walk away.

Tram No. 1 from Victoria Ave to the corner of Park Street and Cecil Street (Stop 25). Alight the tram and head left up Cecil Street by foot. The market is a 5 minute walk away.

Buses

National Bus route No. 253runs from Garden City in Port Melbourne, via Bay Street to South Melbourne Market. It runs every 25 to 35 minutes on weekdays only.
